San Francisco Back Pain Kids Text Neck

Chiropractors across the country say they are treating more young children with back problems linked to poor posture, and that includes San Francisco. They trace those problems to a sedentary lifestyle, youngsters carrying heavy backpacks, and students spending hours each day with their heads down, staring at their smartphones.

The constant use of smartphones and tablets even has a name – “text neck.”

Here’s why you shouldn’t bend forward to check your messages or text your best friend: On average, the human head weighs eight to 10 pounds. Every time your head moves forward an inch, it gains 10 pounds in weight. If you’re scrolling through your Twitter feed while waiting in line for a cup of coffee, the muscles in your upper back and neck are dealing with the equivalent of a 60-pound weight.

Text neck leads to a condition called “forward head posture,” which typically shifts your spine out of alignment, leading to discomfort and pain. One solution is to lift your device to eye level, rather than bend down to read it.

Forward head posture also results when kids carry heavy backpacks. The weight pulls the child backward, so the youngster compensates by leaning forward.

Rene Cailliet, M.D., an expert on musculoskeletal medicine, has said that forward head posture could cost you 30 percent of your lung capacity.

A study published in Spine Magazine in 2005 addressed the relationship between individuals with forward head posture and their overall health. Conclusion: the more the head is misaligned, the worse an individual’s health.

How can a misaligned head or spine affect your health? It can pinch or press on the nerves flowing through the spine and communicating with all the organs, limbs and muscles of your body. Like a hose with a kink in it, a misalignment can interfere with the nerves’ ability to communicate with the rest of your body. Your body, therefore, is unable to operate at peak capacity.

Fortunately, chiropractors trained in Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) can rehabilitate and realign your spine back to health. CBP, the most researched and results-oriented chiropractic technique, is also known as the “clinical biomechanics of posture” because it restores proper posture through adjustments, rehabilitative exercises and cervical extension.

PostureWorks in San Francico’s Financial District is among only a handful of chiropractic care facilities in San Francisco certified in CBP. Drs. Scott Levin, Jason Miller and Corey Todhunter have helped thousands of San Francisco Bay Area residents regain their health and vitality through chiropractic.

Financial District San Francisco Vertigo Chiropractor

San Francisco / Financial District residents – are you suffering from vertigo? Perhaps you’ve already tried medication or physical therapy? You might want to add chiropractic care to your treatment routine.

Consider this research study of 60 patients with vertigo, as reported in the November 8, 2006, issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research.

In this study, 56 of the 60 patients reported experiencing some form of physical trauma before the vertigo began. Twenty-five had been in automobile accidents; 16 had incurred a sports injury from skiing, bicycling, or horseback riding; and six reported a slip and fall in icy conditions. All of them experienced trauma to either their head or neck area.

All 60 patients had vertical subluxations, or misalignments of one or more vertebrae in the spinal column.

All 60 of the study subjects received chiropractic care to correct the misalignments. All of the patients had a positive response to the chiropractic treatment, though the responses took from one to six months. Forty-eight of the patients were symptom-free within six months. The remaining 12 patients experienced a decrease in either the severity or frequency of their episodes.

Why does correcting subluxations improve the health of a vertigo patient? Recall that the spine houses and protects the spinal cord and the nervous system, which delivers messages from the brain to the body and back. As long as the communications system is unimpeded, the body functions as it should.

Misalignments in the spine put excessive pressure on the spinal cord, interfering with the delivery of those messages. Much the way misaligned tires on a San Francisco road keep your car from performing at its peak, misaligned vertebrae impair your body’s ability to function at its best.

Chiropractors who are trained in Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) can correct such misalignments by realigning the spine and restoring the nervous system’s ability to communicate with the rest of the body. CBP – the most researched and results-oriented corrective chiropractic technique – is dedicated to rehabilitation and reshaping of the spine to restore your body’s health.

At both PostureWorks locations in Denver and San Francisco’s Financial District, Drs. Scott Levin, Jason Miller and Corey Todhunter hold advanced certifications in CBP. They have helped thousands of San Francisco Bay Area and Denver residents regain their health and vitality through chiropractic.

San Francisco Chiropractor Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Releif

Thousands of San Francisco and Bay Area California residents are diagnosed with fibromyalgia each year. Fibromyalgia is a mysterious set of syndromes believed to be caused by overactive nerves.

Most fibromyalgia patients are women, and the primary symptoms are bodily aches and pains, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, depression, anxiety, and headaches.

The medical community is still trying to understand how fibromyalgia starts; however most agree that there is one common risk factor among the majority of patients: chronic neck pain and/or chronic back pain as a result of spinal misalignment.

A spinal misalignment (where one or more vertebrae shift out of alignment) is usually caused by poor postural habits, automobile or work-place accidents, sports injuries, or even birth trauma. Spinal misalignments exert excessive and dangerous amounts of pressure on the delicate nerves carrying vital nerve energy from the brain, into the limbs, muscles, and organs.

Diminished nerve flow can quickly lead to a wide range of health problems, including organ dysfunction, pain, fatigue, discomfort, and eventually disease.

Eliminating the Source of Fibromyalgia

The only logical way to reverse spinal misalignments and eliminate the source of fibromyalgia and fatigue, is to correct the structure of the spine. Corrective chiropractors specialize is realigning the spine, and therefore taking pressure off the delicate nerves in the neck and back. Eliminating nerve interference restores nerve energy back to the body, and allows it to heal and function the way it was intended.

Acid Reflux GERD Relief San Francisco Chiropractor

Acid reflux and GERD have become a common problem for many San Francisco and Bay Area residents. A condition which was once synonymous with overeaters and spicy food connoisseurs, has now found its way into the lives of millions of otherwise “healthy” individuals.

Unfortunately, most San Francisco and Bay Area residents have a hard time keeping the symptoms of Acid Reflux / GERD in check. While dietary changes only improve symptoms a little bit, proton-pump inhibitors are usually prescribed to keep the production of acid levels to a minimum. Long-term use of such drugs (over one year) has been associated with heart disease / heart attacks, constipation, diarrhea, and even osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, spine, and wrists.

Eliminating The Source of Acid Reflux

As you may already know, the nervous system is responsible for every function of the human body. From movement, breathing, digestion, and circulatory functions, to cardiovascular health and the immune system – therefore, the health and proper function of our bodies depend on uninterrupted nerve energy.

When nerve energy is interrupted or diminished somewhere along the spine – due to poor posture, automobile accidents, or sports injuries – the organs that depend on nerve energy will cease to function correctly, and go into a state of dysfunction and eventually, disease.

Studies have shown that most patients suffering with acid reflux / GERD share one common trait; poor posture or spinal misalignment in the upper or mid back. The only logical way to eliminate excess pressure from the delicate nerves flowing out of the spine therefore, is to realign the spine back to its normal curvature, and allow nerve energy to flow freely.

With proper nerve flow, organs such as the stomach will start to function and heal the way they were intended to.

San Francisco Back Pain ChiropractorPerhaps you’re one of the many San Francisco residents who resort to prescription or over-the-counter drugs to battle your back and neck pain. The trouble is that the medicine simply masks your pain – and leaves you pretty to potential side effects. It doesn’t solve the problem.

It’s like putting a smiley face over the “check engine” light on your car so you don’t have to take it in for repairs. Eventually, you’re going to ruin your engine while chugging up a San Francisco hill. Similarly, ignoring the source of your pain is likely to lead to more serious health problems down the road.

The good news is that medications are not your only option. Nor must you resort to invasive surgery to eliminate the nagging pain that prevents you from enjoying life to the fullest.

Chiropractic could be the solution you’re looking for. The chiropractic team at San Francisco’s PostureWorks can address the root cause of the problem, without resorting to drugs or invasive procedures. In most cases, back problems are caused by spinal misalignments, which shift things out of place. Lots of things can cause spinal misalignment – poor posture, accidents, injuries, and sometimes a simple movement, such as bending down to tie a shoelace.

Chiropractors are experts on the spine. They know that when your spine is misaligned, it puts pressure on the delicate nerves in the neck and back, interrupting their ability to communicate with the limbs and organs. The effect is much like a hose with a kink in it, or a car with wheels that are out of alignment. Simply put, your body can’t function at its peak.

The solution is Chiropractic BioPhysics, which can rehabilitate the spin, reshape it back to health, and provide exercises to strengthen your back and neck and restore your body’s health. Chiropractic BioPhysics® is the most scientific, researched and results-oriented corrective chiropractic technique.

Poor Posture and Asthma | San Francisco Chiropractor

San Francisco Chiropractor | Asthma ReliefEvery single day thousands of San Francisco and Bay Area residents are experiencing asthma and shortness of breath. They have difficulty filling their lungs to maximum capacity, and as a result feel tired, fatigued, and anxious.

Those with asthma have to carry around their inhalers, take medication, or avoid certain activities they once enjoyed. Most have learned to sideline themselves from life, sports, and recreational activities.

Who’s Most At Risk for Asthma?

Most asthma sufferers have one thing in common; poor posture or misalignments in the spine. Whether an infant, toddler, child, or adult, spinal misalignments (or shifting of the vertebrae out of place) will stretch the delicate nerves in the neck and back, or exert dangerous pressure on them – cutting down on communication between the brain and the corresponding organ.

Without proper communication and nerve energy, organs will go into a state of dysfunction, and eventually disease – in this case, asthma or shortness of breath.

So to answer the question, birth trauma – as a result of pulling and twisting of the infant out of the womb, auto accidents, sports injuries, or poor postural habits all are risk factors for developing asthma.

How to Eliminate the Source of Asthma?

The only logical way to eliminate the source of asthma, is to eliminate the root cause of nerve interference, by lifting dangerous pressure off the delicate nerves in the neck or back. For those with poor posture or spinal misalignments, this means visiting a corrective care chiropractor specializing in Chiropractic BioPhysics or CBP to restore the spine back to its optimal shape.

San Francisco’s PostureWorks is one of only a handful of Chiropractic BioPhysics-certified clinics in the Bay Area. Drs. Scott Levin, Jason Miller, and Corey Todhunter have helped thousands of Financial District, San Francisco, and Bay Area residents not only improve their postures, but ELIMINATE the source of most diseases – including asthma.

Eliminate Fatigue With Chiropractic Care | San Francisco

San Francisco Chiropractor | Eliminate FatigueThousands of San Francisco and Bay Area residents experience fatigue on a daily basis. Unfortunately most people suffering with fatigue have gotten used to living with this debilitating condition, and mask their symptoms by taking over-the-counter medication, drinking excessive amounts of caffeine, eating sugary snacks, or changing daily routines just to get an extra hour or two of rest.

Most San Francisco residents think that fatigue is due to some underlying health condition, poor sleep habits, lack of proper nutrition, or simply being out of shape. While those are legitimate causes, millions of seemingly healthy people in the United States experience fatigue even-though they maintain a proper diet, healthy habits, and are free of any serious illnesses.

Real Source of Fatigue

Studies over the past few decades have shown a strong correlation between fatigue, and spinal health. More specifically, those with misalignments in the cervical spine (neck) experience many more bouts with fatigue, than those with properly aligned spines.

Poor postural habits, auto accidents, sports injuries, or even jumping on and off a cable car in San Francisco, can shift vertebrae out of place. These shifts or misalignments exert excessive and dangerous pressure on the delicate nerves flowing out of the spine and cut down nerve energy from reaching vital organs – a condition known as nerve interference. Without proper nerve flow to the limbs and organs, the body will start experiencing fatigue, discomfort, pain, and eventually disease.

How to Eliminate Fatigue?

Chiropractors specializing in corrective chiropractic care aim to rehabilitate the structure of the spine, and lift pressure off the delicate nerves in the neck and back. By doing so, nerve flow is restored to the body, allowing it to properly heal and function the way it was intended.
